Terms of Service

Welcome to Grocery Genie (“Grocery Genie,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Grocery Genie browser extension (the “Extension”) and related services.

By installing or using the Extension, you agree to these Terms.

1. Description of the Service

Grocery Genie is a browser extension that:

  • Extracts ingredient information from recipe webpages

  • Allows users to create structured grocery lists

  • Integrates with third-party grocery delivery services (including Instacart) to generate shopping links

  • Optionally stores limited recipe and order history for signed-in users

Grocery Genie is not a grocery retailer and does not sell food or fulfill orders.

2. Account & Authentication

Some features require signing in through Clerk (our authentication provider).

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining control of your account

  • Any activity conducted through your authenticated session

We do not store your password.

3. Third-Party Services

3.1 Instacart Integration

When you choose to send your grocery list to Instacart:

  • Your ingredient data is transmitted to Instacart’s API.

  • Instacart generates a shopping list link.

  • Any purchases are governed solely by Instacart’s terms and policies.

Grocery Genie is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Instacart unless explicitly stated.

We are not responsible for:

  • Product availability

  • Pricing accuracy

  • Substitutions

  • Delivery issues

  • Order fulfillment errors

3.2 Affiliate Disclosure

Grocery Genie may include affiliate identifiers when generating grocery delivery links.

If you complete a purchase through a generated link, we may receive compensation from the grocery provider at no additional cost to you.

4. User Responsibilities

You agree:

  • To use the Extension only for lawful purposes

  • Not to reverse-engineer, scrape, or abuse the Extension or backend services

  • Not to attempt to bypass authentication, rate limits, or security controls

  • Not to interfere with third-party services integrated through the Extension

5. Data Storage

If signed in, we store:

  • Up to 15 recent recipes

  • Up to 10 recent grocery orders

You may delete your stored data at any time through the Extension.

Local browser storage is under your control.

6. No Warranty

The Extension is provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE.”

We make no warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to:

  • Accuracy of scraped ingredient data

  • Accuracy of quantity conversions

  • Compatibility with all recipe websites

  • Availability of third-party grocery services

  • Uninterrupted or error-free operation

Recipe parsing may contain inaccuracies.

You are responsible for reviewing your grocery list before checkout.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

Grocery Genie and its owners shall not be liable for:

  • Any indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages

  • Lost profits or lost data

  • Grocery purchase errors

  • Incorrect quantities

  • Allergic reactions

  • Dietary or nutritional issues

  • Delivery problems

  • Third-party service failures

Our total liability shall not exceed $100 USD.

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Grocery Genie from any claims arising from:

  • Your misuse of the Extension

  • Your violation of these Terms

  • Your interaction with third-party grocery providers

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate access if you:

  • Violate these Terms

  • Attempt to abuse or disrupt the service

  • Engage in unlawful behavior

You may stop using the Extension at any time.

10. Changes to the Service

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature of the Extension at any time without notice.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Extension shall be resolved through binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The arbitration shall take place in Tennessee.

You agree to waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, either party may seek injunctive or equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction in Tennessee for matters relating to intellectual property or misuse of the service.
